Junebug is a juvenile Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) who was rescued after becoming severely entangled in braided fishing line. During a health assessment at North Kā‘anapali Beach (N. Kam 3), responders noticed she was not using her left front flipper, prompting further examination and transport to The Marine Institute for emergency care.

Upon arrival, we discovered extensive entanglement, and ingested line causing a painful wound at the corner of her jaw. Junebug suffered strangulation injuries to both front flippers, a deep laceration across the top of her neck, significant swelling, and exposed bone on her left front flipper.

After careful treatment, Junebug was placed in a rehabilitation tank for observation. Encouragingly, she quickly regained full movement in her right front flipper and partial movement in her injured left front flipper. She will remain at the Honu Hospital while our team continues her treatment and monitors her recovery.

Thanks to generous donors and adopters like you, Junebug has the chance to heal and return to the ocean where she belongs. Every rescue, treatment, and day of care is made possible through community support, giving sea turtles like Junebug a second chance at life.
